Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that delivers acoustic waves through a handheld applicator to a targeted area. These mechanical waves interact with tissue and are thought to encourage a healing response, support local circulation and help reduce pain sensitivity.
ESWT offers a drug-free treatment option that can complement rehabilitation. The aim is to support the body’s recovery processes while helping you move more comfortably. Your clinician will explain the equipment and approach used for your care.
Potential benefits include:
Your care begins with understanding the whole picture: where you feel discomfort, how you move and what you want to get back to. Shockwave therapy may be considered for a range of tendon and soft tissue concerns, including:
You’re also welcome to see us for back pain, joint discomfort or recovery after an injury. We’ll assess the source of your symptoms and explain where shockwave may fit alongside chiropractic care, physiotherapy and exercises. This keeps treatment focused on your individual findings and goals.
We’ll help you settle into a comfortable position, apply contact gel and gently place the handheld applicator over the treatment area. You may feel a rhythmic tapping sensation. We’ll check in with you and adjust the settings to your comfort and treatment needs.
Appointments are usually around 20–30 minutes, allowing time for review and care; the shockwave application itself is shorter. An initial course may involve 3–5 visits, with the number and spacing personalised after assessment and reviewed as you progress.
We’ll monitor changes in pain, mobility and everyday function, and guide you through exercises and activity advice between visits. Recovery develops over time, and your own response will shape the next steps.
